This is the metal version of the tree collar idea. Where a woven collar is plastic over wire, this one is powder coated steel, so it is heavier, more rigid and far less likely to be knocked out of shape. It sits around the base of the tree as a tapered ring, hiding the stand and the cords.

What it actually looks like

CJ lists the colour as cream white. In the supplier’s own photographs it reads as a clean white, and the front carries a printed design reading Merry and Bright in red, green and blue script with a small decorative flourish. That printing is a significant part of the look and is not mentioned in the supplier’s title, so it is worth knowing before you order: this is a decorated collar, not a plain one. If you want an unadorned metal ring, this is not it.

Size

The collar measures 26 in by 26 in and stands 11 in tall. That is taller than most woven collars, which hides a bigger stand and a deeper tangle of cords, but it also means it sits higher against the lowest branches. On a tree with very low, full bottom branches you may need to lift or trim a few to seat it properly.

Assembly

It is a three piece design. The sections curve together into the finished ring and separate again at the end of the season, so it stores flat rather than taking up a whole shelf. Because the panels are steel rather than plastic, they will hold their curve indefinitely; they will also dent rather than flex if something heavy lands on them.

Living with it

The weight is the main practical difference from a plastic or fabric alternative. A steel collar does not shift when a pet leans on it and does not blow around if you use it on a covered porch. Against that, powder coated steel will chip if it is dragged across a hard floor, and a chip on a white finish is visible. Lift it rather than sliding it.

It suits an artificial tree on a standard cross stand. Check that your stand is narrower than the collar’s opening before ordering.
