A metal wreath, not a foliage one

Most Christmas wreaths are an attempt to look like a real one. This is not. It is a 24 inch metal ring with an iridescent finish and a red bow, and it belongs to a different tradition, closer to the metal star and snowflake motifs used on street lighting than to a fir wreath. If your door is modern, painted a strong colour, or already busy with foliage elsewhere, this is the piece that will not compete with it.

The finish

Iridescent means the surface shifts colour depending on the angle you look at it and the light falling on it. In daylight it picks up whatever is around it and reads as a pale shimmer. At night, with its own LEDs on, it holds a warmer tone. The practical consequence is that photographs of an iridescent finish never quite match what you see in person, because the effect depends on movement.

Lighting

Warm white LEDs run around the frame. Warm white is the right choice against an iridescent surface: cool white tends to flatten the effect and push the whole thing towards grey.

Build and weight

The wreath weighs about 2.65 pounds, which is light enough for an ordinary over-the-door hanger or a single secure hook. Because the structure is metal rather than moulded foliage, it holds its exact shape indefinitely and there is no fluffing out to do when it arrives. It comes out of the box looking the way it will look on the wall.

Indoors and out

It is built for both. The frame and finish are weather resistant, so a porch, a gate or an exposed door are all fine for a season. As with anything lit and left outdoors, bring it in at the end of the holidays rather than leaving it up through the spring.

A front door, a window, an interior wall, above a mantel, or as a single lit shape in a room that has no tree. It reads well on its own and does not need anything else around it.
