A single figure at porch scale

This snowman stands about 2.6 ft tall, roughly 1.5 ft across and 1 ft deep on its stand. That is deliberately smaller than a lawn centrepiece and it changes where the piece works. At this size it suits a porch, a set of front steps, a landing beside a door or a covered entryway, where people pass within a few feet of it. Set on an open lawn twenty yards from the road it will look lost. The figure is dressed in a top hat and a long scarf, with a stick-arm on each side.

The lighting

There are 105 LEDs built in, and the mid-section is a mirrored panel that spreads the light into a bright disc rather than showing separate points. From a few feet away the effect is a warm oval glow at the middle of the body with the hat and scarf reading as dark silhouette above it. This is a decoration that is meant to be looked at up close. If you want something to carry from the street, a 4 ft lit figure or a wide motif will serve you better; this one is for the doorway.

Assembly, stand and staking

The piece arrives in sections and goes together with zip ties, which the supplier includes. That is quick, but it is also one-way: cutting the ties is how you take it apart, so keep spares if you plan to disassemble it for storage. It comes with a metal stand for hard surfaces and ground stakes for soil. Use the stakes whenever you can. The stand holds the figure upright on a porch in still air, but a 2.6 ft body is easy for wind to tip, and a tipped figure on a concrete step is how the mirrored panel gets scratched.

Power and cord runs

Site it within reach of a covered outdoor outlet if possible, since a porch installation usually means a short cord run and less exposure. If the cord has to cross a walkway, tape it down or route it under a mat; a tripping cord beside a front door is a genuine hazard rather than a cosmetic problem.

Weather and storage

The supplier describes the materials as all-weather and rates the piece as windproof, rainproof and snowproof, though it does not publish an ingress protection number. Treat it as rain-tolerant rather than sealed: keep the plug connection off wet ground. It ships at about 5.4 lb in a carton roughly 18 by 14 by 14 in, so it stores in one bin if you can get the sections apart, or on a shelf assembled.
