Sea Urchin Hanging Ornaments, Set of 4 with Rope Hangers

Description

A set of four sea urchin shell ornaments in a soft purple, each hung from a length of natural rope. Urchin shells have a geometry nothing manufactured quite matches: a low dome scored into radiating segments and covered in a fine, regular pattern of raised points. That texture is why they read as expensive on a tree, and why photographs of them never quite do them justice.

Where they work

These are accents, not a set you decorate a whole tree with. Four pieces go on the front of a tree at eye level, or along a garland over a mantel, or in a bowl with starfish and a few shells. Paired with rope, jute and warm white lights they anchor a coastal scheme. Dropped into a conventional red and gold tree they simply look out of place.

The rope is part of the look rather than a hanger you are meant to replace. It is long enough to loop over a branch or a hook without tying a knot.

An honest note on the material

The supplier record for this product carries two different material descriptions: the product name calls the shells natural sea urchin, while the attribute field names a moulded material. We have not had a sample in hand to settle which is right, so we are not going to claim either one on this page. What we can confirm from the same supplier record is the four-piece count, the purple colour, the rope hanger and the packed size. Handling

If the shells are natural, they are fragile the way an eggshell is: strong against even pressure and weak against a point load. Either way, support the dome rather than pulling on the rope when an ornament is already hanging, and store them somewhere nothing heavier will be stacked on top of them.
