Snow Globe String Lights, 13.78 ft Battery Powered with 10 Globes

Description

Ten small scenes rather than ten bulbs

Each globe on this string is filled with artificial pine needles, a snowflake and a few berries, lit from behind by two warm white LEDs. The effect at close range is the reason to buy it: unlike a plain bulb, there is something to look at when the light is off, so the string still reads as a decoration in daylight. There are ten globes across 13.78 feet, spaced about 15.75 inches apart, each one roughly two inches across and just over three inches tall.

Battery power is the feature, not a compromise

Three AA batteries, which are not included, sit in a small box at the end of the run. That frees the string from outlets entirely, which is what you want for a mantelpiece, a stair rail, a dresser or a bookshelf, where a trailing cable would ruin the effect. Two modes are available: steady, and flashing. Steady is the right answer for anywhere you sit; the flashing mode is more of a window or a party setting.

PET, not glass, and that is deliberate

The globes are moulded PET rather than glass. They will not shatter if the string comes off the mantel, which matters in a house with children, pets, or a stair rail that gets knocked. They are also considerably lighter, so the string does not sag between fixings the way a glass equivalent does. The trade-off is that PET does not have the optical depth of glass at close range, which you will notice if you are used to a heavy glass ornament.

Indoor only, which we will not soften

This string is not waterproof and neither is the battery box. It is an indoor decoration. Putting it on a covered porch through a wet December will end it. If you want the same look outdoors, buy something with a published IP rating instead.
