Vintage Santa Wooden Door Hanger, 11.8 x 10.4 in Die Cut Plaque

Description

This is a flat wooden plaque cut to the outline of the artwork rather than a rectangular sign. The image is a mid century Santa face, the rosy cheeked greeting card style with a snow dusted hat and a white pom, set into a spray of red and cream poinsettias, pine cones, holly and a red buffalo check bow. It hangs from a natural rope loop knotted through the top.

Size and build

It measures 11.81 inches wide by 10.39 inches tall and is 0.2 inches thick. That thickness matters more than it sounds: thin printed panels warp, and 5 millimetres of board is enough to stay flat on a door that gets sun on one side and cold on the other. The print is applied to the face only; the back and the cut edges are plain wood.

What it is not

Our supplier lists this as a welcome sign. There is no word printed on it, in any language. It is a decorative plaque, not a greeting. We have named it accordingly so you know what is arriving.

Where it works

On a front door it reads as a lighter alternative to a wreath, and it takes up almost no depth, so a storm door still closes over it. It also works on a wall, above a mantel, in a window, or propped on a shelf. It is light enough for an adhesive hook or an over door hanger.

Weather

Wood and rope are fine under a covered porch. Left in driving rain the board will eventually swell and the rope will darken, so if your door is fully exposed, treat this as an indoor piece. The supplier does not publish a finish or a sealant, so assume untreated decorative board.

On the price

At $60.99 this is a considered purchase for a 12 inch printed wood plaque, and we would rather point that out than let it surprise you. What you are paying for is the die cut shape and the artwork, which is genuinely nicer than the flat rectangular versions. If you want the largest visual effect per dollar on a front door, a door cover banner will do more.
