Why weight matters more than it sounds

Artificial tree branches are stiff near the trunk and soft at the tip, and the outer few inches of a branch is where a tree looks fullest. Glass and ceramic ornaments cannot go there, because they bend the tip down and leave a visible sag. Flat wooden pieces this light can, which means you can decorate the outline of the tree rather than only its interior. That is the practical reason to keep a set of lightweight ornaments alongside the heavier ones, and it applies just as much to a wreath or a garland.

Twenty-four pieces, and what that covers

Twenty-four is enough to fill in around a set of larger ornaments on a six or seven foot tree, or to decorate a small tabletop tree on its own. Because the shapes repeat across a candy theme rather than being twenty-four different designs, they read as a pattern from a distance instead of a collection, which is what you want from a filler ornament.

The rope hangers are already fitted, so there is no threading to do. Rope also sits better on a rustic or natural-toned tree than a metal hook does, and it will not scratch a painted surface if you use these on a banister or a mantel.

Durability and children

Wood does not shatter. Dropped on a hard floor these will bounce, and the worst case is a chipped edge or a scuff to the printed face. That makes them one of the few ornament types that can live on the bottom two feet of a tree in a house with a toddler or a dog without anyone having to think about it.

Keep them dry. Printed wood in a damp garage over the off-season will lift and warp at the edges, so store the set indoors in the box it arrives in rather than in an unheated space.
