Description

A tree collar does the same job as a tree skirt but keeps its shape. This one is woven in a coffee brown basket texture over a plastic frame reinforced with metal wire, so it stands up on its own instead of lying flat on the floor. It hides the tree stand, the power strip and the tangle of cords that usually sit under a tree, and it gives the base of the tree a finished edge.

Size and fit

The collar measures 26.8 in across the bottom and 19.7 in across the top opening, and stands 8.7 in tall. The supplier states it suits trees from 82.7 in to 106.3 in tall, which is roughly 6.9 to 8.9 ft. That is a guide to proportion rather than a hard limit: what actually matters is whether your tree stand fits inside the 19.7 in top opening. Measure the widest point of your stand before ordering. A stand wider than that will not drop through, and a much narrower stand will leave a visible gap.

Assembly and storage

It ships flat in three curved panels. You join them into a ring with the metal rings supplied, which takes a couple of minutes and no tools. The same three panels come apart for storage, so it packs down to a shallow stack rather than needing a full box of its own.

What it is made of

The weave is plastic, not natural rattan or seagrass. Up close it reads as a synthetic basket weave. That is the tradeoff for the price and for durability: it will not shed, split or attract insects the way a natural fibre collar can, and it wipes clean, but it will not have the irregular character of real woven fibre. The metal wire inside the panels is what keeps the ring circular under its own weight.

Practical notes

A collar is easier to live with than a skirt if you have pets or small children, because there is no loose fabric to drag, chew or bunch up, and it forms a low physical barrier around the stand. It does not, however, catch dropped needles or water spills the way a skirt does, so a real tree will still shed onto the floor around it.
