LED Fairy Curtain Lights for Windows, Star and Reindeer Motifs

Description

A window is the easiest surface in the house to decorate

It is already a frame, it is already visible from the street, and it needs nothing hung on the wall. This curtain drops a row of lit shapes down a pane on fine wires, with the shapes at the ends of the drops and smaller points of light along them. Three combinations are available: warm white reindeer and trees, the same shapes in colour, and colour stars and moons.

Two ways to power it, which is the point

The string takes either a battery box or a USB lead. That matters more than it sounds. Windows are rarely near an outlet, and the usual answer is a cable taped along the skirting board, which undoes the effect. With batteries the curtain is genuinely free-standing. With a USB power bank on the sill you get longer running time and no cable at all. If there happens to be an outlet nearby, a standard USB adapter works too.

Warm white or colour, and why it changes the room

Warm white reads as candlelight through glass and sits quietly behind curtains. It suits a room you actually use in the evening. The colour versions are brighter and more insistent, which works well in a child’s room, over a bar, or in a window you want people outside to notice. If you are buying two, a common arrangement is warm white on the front of the house and colour on the back where the family sits.

Handling and placement

The light string is sealed against splashes. The battery box is not, so this belongs on the inside of a window rather than on a porch. Hang it from small adhesive hooks along the top of the frame rather than the curtain rail, so the drops hang straight and the curtains can still close behind it. The wires are fine enough to tangle if the whole thing is stuffed into a box in January, so coiling it loosely around a piece of card is worth the two minutes.
