Welcome to Brightwell Market

Christmas

Christmas decorating splits into two jobs: the outside of the house, which has to read from the street in the dark, and the inside, which has to feel warm to sit in. Brightwell Market stocks for both: lawn projectors, inflatables, flameless lanterns, lighted garlands and artificial trees. The bias is toward decorations that set themselves up and turn themselves on.

More about Christmas

Outside: coverage beats effort

The single biggest change you can make to a house front is a projector rather than a string of lights. A stake in the lawn covers an entire facade in seconds, where hanging lights costs you an afternoon on a ladder and covers one roofline. Our snowflake and laser projectors throw patterns across up to 215 square feet from 30-odd feet away, and they are IP44 rated so they stay out through the season. Inflatables and oversized ornament balls do the rest of the work at ground level, where passing cars actually look.

Inside: warm light, no open flame

Indoors the useful test is whether a decoration can be left on. Flameless LED lanterns and candle scenes give you the flicker and the glow without wax, smoke or a flame to watch, which means they can sit in a window, a hallway or a guest room you are not in. Lighted garlands and twig vines do the same along a mantel or a banister, and the ones with built-in timers light themselves at the same time every evening whether or not you are home.

The tree

An artificial tree is a ten-year purchase, and the construction is what decides whether it lasts. Look for PE molded branch tips over a PVC interior: the PE tips are cast from real branches and carry actual needle shape where the eye lands, while the PVC fills the silhouette behind them. A sectional build and a folding metal stand matter in January, which is when people decide whether they are keeping a tree or replacing it.

Shipping and timing

Everything ships within the United States, free on orders over $50 and $4.99 flat otherwise. Christmas decor is a deadline purchase, so order earlier than feels necessary: our current window is 1 to 3 business days of handling plus 5 to 9 business days in transit, which puts the safe last-order date for Christmas delivery at Monday December 7. Decorations that arrive in January are worth nothing to anybody.
