Three plastic pillar candles printed with a Nordic band pattern: leaping reindeer, snowflakes, hearts and rosettes in red and grey on a cream ground. They are sized as a stepped trio, 5.91 in, 3.94 in and 2.95 in tall, and all three share the same 2.95 in diameter, so they group neatly on a mantel, a windowsill or a stair tread without looking like three separate objects.

Each candle carries one LED bead behind the shell. The supplier lists three modes: a flicker that imitates a real flame, a steady glow, and a colour-change cycle running through twelve colours. A handheld remote controls all three candles at once or one at a time, and sets a timer that switches them off after four or eight hours so they restart at the same time the following evening.

Power is three AAA batteries per candle, nine in total, and they are not included. The battery compartment and the on/off switch sit in the moulded base, so nothing shows once the candle is standing upright.

What you should know before buying

These are plastic, not wax. That is the trade-off for the printed Nordic banding, which cannot be applied to a soft wax shell, and it also means they will not soften if they sit in a sunny window. If you want the look and feel of real wax, the ivory three pack in this category is the one to choose instead.

The colour-change mode is a novelty rather than the main event. Most people will leave all three on flicker and never touch it again, and the printed pattern reads best under the warm flicker rather than under blue or green light.
