Description

This is a single piece of flat iron bent into a hook at each end. One end goes over the top edge of a door, the other carries whatever you are hanging. There is nothing to assemble and nothing to fix to the door, which is the entire point: it is the answer for rented flats, fire doors, and any door you would rather not make holes in.

Size

The supplier’s printed size drawing gives 39 centimetres, which is 15.35 inches, from the top of the over-door bend to the tip of the lower hook, and 3 centimetres, which is 1.18 inches, across the strap. That is a fairly long drop, so on a standard door the hanging point sits at roughly head height rather than up at the top rail. Worth measuring against the item you want to hang before you order, because a long wreath on a long hanger can end up lower than you expect.

What it actually holds

Our supplier sells this as a wreath hanger. Every photograph it supplies shows it holding a Christmas stocking or a small ornament, and not one shows a wreath on it. We are not going to pretend otherwise. It will certainly carry a stocking, a small wooden plaque or a lightweight ornament. A large pre-lit wreath with a dense base is a different proposition, and we cannot tell you it will take one because no load rating is published anywhere. If you are hanging something heavy, treat this as untested and be sensible about it.

Finish and use

The finish is flat black, which disappears against a dark door and reads as a deliberate line against a pale one. It is not seasonal, so it stays useful the rest of the year for a hanging planter, a tote bag or a dog lead. Over door hooks depend on the gap between the door and the frame; at 3 millimetres or so of steel this is about as slim as they come, so if your door sits tight in its frame this is the kind that will still fit.
