Buying a garland, a wreath and a pair of entrance trees separately almost always ends with four slightly different greens and four different ideas of what a red berry looks like. This HOMCOM set is made as one family, so the foliage tone, the berry clusters and the pine cones match across all four pieces. That is most of the reason to buy a set rather than assemble one.

What is in the set

Every piece is pre-lit with warm white LEDs and dressed with red berry clusters and pine cones. Assembled, the set weighs about 8.8 pounds. It ships at 12.1 pounds.

Power and placement

Each of the four pieces runs on its own set of three AA batteries, which are not included. That is the single most important thing to know before you buy. The advantage is real: there is no cable to run out to the trees, no extension lead across a doorway, and nothing that has to reach a socket. The cost is that you are feeding twelve AA batteries across the set, and battery powered LEDs are dimmer than mains powered ones. If you want the pair of trees lit from dusk until late every night through December, budget for a second set of batteries or use rechargeables.

Indoors and under cover

The foliage is plastic on a flame retardant specification, and the set is intended for indoor use or for covered outdoor positions such as a porch, a recessed doorway or a covered walkway. It is not built for a fully exposed roofline or an open driveway in driving rain. The battery boxes in particular should stay out of direct weather.

Storage

The trees keep their shape better stored upright rather than on their sides, and the garland is best loosely coiled in its own bag rather than folded. Fluff the branch tips outward as you unpack each piece. Artificial foliage arrives compressed and looks thin until it is opened out by hand, which takes a few minutes per piece and makes more difference than anything else you will do to it.
