48 in Christmas Tree Skirt, Red and Gold Vintage Santa Print

Description

A full size round tree skirt, 48 in across, in a deep red printed with gold snowflakes. The lower third carries a vintage style Santa illustration, the kind of rosy cheeked, mid century greeting card Santa, framed with poinsettias, holly and cotton bolls. Gold script reading Merry Christmas curves up both sides.

Size and how it sits

At 48 in diameter it covers the floor under most full size trees, roughly 6 to 9 ft. There is a small round opening at the centre for the trunk and a slit running out to the edge so you can wrap it around an already assembled tree rather than threading it over the top. Ties along the slit hold it closed. On a tree narrower than about 5 ft the skirt will look oversized and will spread well beyond the branches.

The print

The whole design is printed on one face. The reverse is plain. This matters when you lay it out: the printed Santa is positioned toward one edge rather than centred, so the skirt has a clear front, and you will want to rotate it so Santa faces into the room rather than at the wall.

Weight and handling

The supplier publishes a pack weight of 200 g, which is about 7 oz for a piece of fabric 4 ft across. That is a light, thin skirt, not a quilted or fleece backed one. It is easy to store and easy to shake out, but it will not have much body, so it will follow the contour of whatever is under it rather than draping in stiff folds. Pressing the creases out after unpacking, on a low heat and with a cloth between, will make a noticeable difference to how it photographs.

Skirt or collar

A skirt is the better choice if you want to catch dropped needles and the occasional watering spill, and if you like the tree base to look soft rather than architectural. It is the worse choice with a cat or a crawling child, because loose fabric gets dragged. If that is your situation, a rigid tree collar is the more practical answer.

Spot clean only is the safe assumption for a printed polyester skirt of this weight.
