Eight lighting modes without a cable

A 24 inch wreath on a front door is the most common Christmas decoration there is, and the most common problem with it is power. There is rarely a socket where you want the wreath, and running a lead to one turns a five minute job into an afternoon. This wreath is battery powered and comes with a remote, so the whole installation is a hook and a hanger.

Lighting

Fifty warm LEDs are set through the foliage. Eight modes are available from the remote, running from a steady glow through slow fade, wave and twinkle to a faster flash. On a wreath this size the steady setting is the one most people leave it on; the changing modes are more useful on a window, where movement reads from further away.

Density

One hundred and twenty PVC branch tips. That is a moderate count, which suits the 24 inch diameter: enough to fill the ring and hold its shape, without the bulk that would make it awkward on a door that has to close against a weather seal. Ornaments are included and set through the foliage.

Battery life

Battery powered LEDs are dimmer than mains powered ones and they do not run indefinitely. Used for an evening at a time, a set of batteries will get you through a good part of the season. Left on continuously from the start of December, they will not. The remote makes it easy to switch off on the way past, which is the practical answer.

Weight and fixing

About 4.4 pounds. That is within range for a standard over-the-door wreath hanger, though a hanger with a wide hook will sit more stably than a thin one and is less likely to mark the paint on the back of the door.

Assembly and storage

Open the branch tips out by hand when it arrives, working outward from the frame. Store it flat with nothing on top, and take the batteries out before it goes into the loft. Leaking cells in January are the usual way a wreath like this does not survive to a second year.
