Caroline’s Treasures Australian Cattle Dog Christmas Doormat, 24 x 36 in

Description

This is a breed doormat first and a Christmas doormat second, and it is worth saying that plainly before anything else. The artwork is an Australian Cattle Dog in a Christmas setting. If you do not have a cattle dog in the house, or you are not buying for someone who does, this is not the mat for you and a door banner will serve you better.

For the people it does suit, it is the best documented item in our Christmas Gifts range. It carries a real brand, Caroline’s Treasures, a real UPC (194030840269) and a published specification, which is unusual in this category and matters if you care about buying something with a traceable manufacturer behind it.

Construction

The mat measures 36 inches wide by 24 inches deep and is 0.15 inches thick, so it sits low enough to clear a storm door or an inward swinging front door. The top layer is polyester felt, dyed with the printed image rather than surface printed, which is why the colour holds up outdoors. Below that are stabilising layers that stop the mat curling, and the bottom is stamped rubber that grips a porch floor or a hallway tile. The edges are bound in heavy black tape rather than serged, which is the part of a doormat that usually fails first.

Cleaning

Hose it off, or use a pressure washer. Do not use anything that produces suds, because the foam works into the felt and is difficult to rinse out. Do not scrub it with a stiff brush; the felt pile will fluff and hold dirt afterwards. Indoors, vacuum it on the hard floor setting rather than the carpet setting.

Indoor or outdoor

It is rated for both. Under a covered porch it will look new for several seasons. Fully exposed to weather and direct sun it will fade eventually, as any printed mat does, and it will hold water in heavy rain until it drains. Caroline’s Treasures publishes a product weight of 3.1 lb; the 4.01 lb shipping weight on this listing is our supplier’s packed figure and includes the roll.
