A single sheet of laser-cut metal, finished matte black, showing a nativity scene in silhouette: the stable roof, Mary and the infant, Joseph with a staff, a shepherd with a crook, a kneeling magus, an ox, a lamb and a dog, with the star pierced above the roofline and small cut-outs scattered across the roof so daylight shows through them. The panel measures 30 cm by 18.1 cm, which is 11.8 in wide by 7.1 in tall, and it sits on two ground stakes each 11 cm or 4.3 in long and 1 cm wide.

It is designed to be pushed into soft ground: a garden bed, a lawn edge, a large planter or a window box. Sited low among greenery with a path light or an uplighter behind it, the pierced star and the cut-outs read clearly after dark. It is not tall enough to carry a lawn on its own, so treat it as an accent beside a door, a step or a border rather than as a centrepiece display.

This is not a projector, whatever the supplier calls it

CJ sells this item under the title “Waterproof Metal Nativity Projector Light” and its description talks about LED bulbs and projection effects. None of that is true of the product. There is no lamp, no lens, no bulb, no cable and no battery compartment, and every one of the supplier’s six photographs shows the same unlit metal panel standing in grass. The giveaway is in the supplier’s own packing data: the carton is 300 by 180 by 10 mm, and nothing 10 mm thick contains a projector.

We could have listed it under the supplier’s name and it would have sold to people looking for a projector. It would also have been a false listing, so we have named it for what it is and priced it accordingly. Weather and care

The supplier describes the finish as waterproof. Powder-coated steel in an American winter will generally hold one or two seasons outdoors and will eventually mark at the stake ends where the coating is cut. Bring it in when the season finishes, dry it, and it will last considerably longer. The shipped weight is 213 g, which is 0.47 lb.
