Built for a door you can see from the road

At 48 inches across, this is not a front door wreath in the usual sense. It is closer in scale to the wreaths hung on the front of public buildings, and it is meant for a double door, a gable end, a gate, a barn or a wall where a 24 inch wreath would simply disappear. If your door is a standard single width, measure first, because this will overhang it on both sides.

Lighting

315 warm white LEDs are wound through the foliage rather than clipped to the front, so the light comes from inside the wreath and the individual bulbs are not the thing you notice. A remote handles switching and carries a timer, which matters more on a wreath this size than on a small one: reaching a 48 inch wreath hung high on a gate to switch it off by hand is a nuisance you will tolerate exactly once.

Construction

The frame is metal rather than moulded plastic, which is what allows a wreath of this diameter to hold a circular shape while hanging from a single point and carrying its own weight plus whatever rain and snow it collects. Green foliage with a red bow is the arrangement. The whole thing weighs about 9.5 pounds, so the fixing matters. A lightweight over-the-door wreath hanger is not enough. Use a proper hook into a stud, a gate frame or masonry.

Outdoor use

This is designed to sit outside for a season. Weather will still shorten its life if you leave it out year round, so take it down in January, let it dry properly before it goes into storage, and it should come back out for several Decembers.

Assembly

It arrives compressed into a flat box. Expect to spend a few minutes separating and bending out the branch tips before it looks like the photograph, working from the inside of the ring outward. This is normal for every artificial wreath, and it is the difference between a full wreath and a flat one.

A note on scale

If you are lighting a whole frontage, a single large wreath centred on the building usually reads better than several small ones spread across it. This is the piece for that job, and it is why the lighting is warm white rather than multicolour: at this size a colour changing display becomes the whole facade.
