Three penguins in Santa hats and striped scarves, arranged as a family group with the two adults either side of a smaller one. Penguins are a useful alternative to another Santa if your street already has three of them, and they read as winter rather than specifically as Christmas, so the display still works through January.

The inflated size is 65 x 39.4 x 70.9 in (165 x 100 x 180 cm). The 70.9 in height is just under six feet, which is what the supplier’s 6 ft label refers to, and the 65 in width means it needs a decently wide spot. Five built-in LEDs light the group from inside.

Power and placement

The adapter and built-in fan run from a standard household outlet and the fan stays on for as long as the display is up. As with all of these, your outlet position is the real constraint: check the run before you settle on a spot, and use an outdoor rated extension cord on a GFCI outlet if you need to reach further. Keep the cord routed along an edge rather than across a path.

Anchoring

Six ground stakes and two securing ropes are included, which is a reasonable kit for a piece of this height. Stake all six points rather than just the front two, because a wide group presents a large face to a crosswind. On a deck or a driveway, stakes are no use, so weight the base with sandbags instead. In sustained high wind, deflate it. That takes under a minute and is a better plan than replacing it.

Polyester with plastic fittings, packed at 3.09 lbs in a box of roughly 25 x 18 x 24 cm. It deflates, folds down small and stores easily for the rest of the year.

A word on timing. Handling is one to three business days and transit five to nine, which means Monday December 7 is the last order date that clears Christmas comfortably. Penguins tend to sell out earlier than Santas do, simply because fewer suppliers make them, so if this is the piece you want it is worth ordering well before that date rather than on it.
